ABOUT ME

Hey, I am Aahana. Thank you for taking the time to go through my portfolio!

I am a self-taught visual designer and illustrator with a passion for holistic creative strategy.

My goal is to grow as a visual designer and ultimately lead as an art director. My experience from international internships and working while studying (remotely) has honed my perseverance, flexibility, and innovative approach.

Here’s a little background to help you get to know me and build that trust:

my story

I started drawing at…it was too young of an age for me to even remember, I have always been passionate about creating. In the summer of 2006, when I was almost 7 years old, I would obsessively draw and paint, through the hours of the day but something seemed a little…off. My mother was extremely worried, perplexed even, and she decided to take it upon herself to make things right. Though maa encouraged me, tried to show me, and teach me; I happily refused to colour within the lines. (Despite all the sceneries I drew), the grass was never green, and the hue always spilled beyond the circle.

One day she finally managed to find an art teacher nearby, who to my luck, was an artist. Whilst my journey in this art class only lasted a few months, the artist-teacher helped my mother realise: the art in, and outside the box. Ever since, days, months, and years have passed but that innate impulse to do things a different way, and yes, you guessed it right: think outside the box has always stayed.

education

I have a  B.A honours in Art History from the Open University. While remembering art periods at the tip of my fingers is definitely not my forte, one of my modules in collaboration with Tate has equipped me with skills to engage in critical cultural analysis, which is key to unlocking audience reciprocation toward a subject. Whereas diving deep into themes like “lived religion” has allowed me to flip the switch of understanding the world from an authoritative point of view to one of lived experiences.

Consolidating my learning has given me the know-how on the art of combining relatable aspects of a subject with its unique characteristics in order to create a compelling story.
